While providing free, original fiction to our reader-base is our core goal here at Lore Publication, we have always had a soft spot for evocative poetry.

On our blog is where we publish poems, poetry one-shots, or even a few select poems together in one longer-form post. Our first commercial project, Nihilist’s Bible, is a niche poetry chapbook from our founder, Stewart.

To us, poetry is just as vital to our readers as our fiction.

FAQs About Lore Publication

Original fiction is a story—whether it’s flash fiction or a short story—that is entirely your own work. This means that you are able to license the rights of publication to us (or anyone else, for that matter). This does not include fan fiction; fan fiction is not considered original work.

We have a varied content calendar throughout the year and do accept submissions, but we usually do so in submission windows to make it easier for your work to be seen. You can find more details on our submissions page—at the moment, we do not accept commercial manuscripts.

When it comes to publishing, Lore Publication usually runs submission windows every year for stories, essays, articles, and poetry. We then select the work we think fits our house style and publishing guidelines, talk to the writer, and publish their work right here on the website.

But, why Lore? Well, we believe in championing voices, not lining pockets. We like to edit for house style to leave the writer’s vision for their piece wholly intact. And it’s great to get your work out there! We do pay for work when we are able, but this is a passion project. That comes with a lot of work to keep the cogs turning!

After a quick browse through the website, you’ll see a good chunk of our stories are science fiction or fantasy-based. This is by design, as these are our core focus areas. We do, however, love speculative fiction (which you’ll find under our “mystery” section) and horror—both of which have their own dedicated spaces. At our core, we are looking for engaging, original fiction that gives us food for thought!

Every. Single. Month. As we are a small team behind the scenes, it can be challenging to balance real-life commitments with running the website. However, we aim to publish new articles and stories every month. Sometimes that means 1 to 2 pieces; other times, it can mean anywhere between 3 to 10. It all depends on our current back catalog of available work and our time to review it.

Share, share, share! Lore Publication is all about making sure the right stories reach the right audience. Sharing the website link in your writer groups or friend circles is a fantastic, simple way to help us grow.

If you’d rather contribute directly to the running of the website, purchasing our commercial releases is the best way to help. We don’t run a donation bucket or use “buy me a coffee” style tipping platforms.

Outside of the direct sales from our commercial projects, we don’t. This is a passion project run by a small team that simply wants to share great stories with the world. Ongoing funding for the website hosting and operations comes directly from the personal investment of our founder.

Notice how we phrased it; how AI is used, rather than if we use it. It would be a fib to claim we don’t use AI tools in our workflow. We do. What we don’t do is write fiction with AI tools, or accept any work that is. We use AI to do the heavy lifting with formatting some of our articles and to aid us with proofing – but the core of the idea and how we write about it is always human.
